The exhibition presents a focus on a project by the duo Christto & Andrew, authors of the photo selected for the festival affiche, taken from their series Encrypted Purgatory
The image, with its strong and alienating colours, twists a very common object - a simple computer keyboard - giving it an ominous vibe with the proximity of a snake. The work by Christto & Andrew poetically induces the worrying for a future increasingly dominated by technology, in which humanity - in its more dehumanized form - is entirely controlled by artificial intelligence. Like in an "encrypted Purgatory", the visitor is disoriented, floating in an undefined time, with access codes that can be written without the certainty they can open the doors of comprehension and control of reality.
Perhaps the contemporary Inferno will materialise through our inability to negotiate with technology, which will be increasingly pervasive in our lives.
Christto & Andrew is a creative duo started in 2012. Its members, Christto Sanz (Porto Rico, 1985) and Andrew Weir (Sud Africa, 1987), live and work in Doha, Qatar.
