Photo Open Up introduces Resonance, the yearly exhibition promoted by the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre of Beijing, one of the most renowned international museums of contemporary photography. This extraordinary partnership offers an insight into the artistic scene in China. The country was harshly hit by the global pandemic which has inevitably influenced the work of many authors who took the opportunity to reflect on everyday life during lockdown.
Even the curators of the chinese museum have observed how the online interactions significantly increased during the pandemic, and how the meaning of individual actions became more apparent. This virus showed us how the scope and speed of modern life can amplify apparently minor choices, giving them more energy and importance. This situation is pushing us to reconsider the role of individuals in a globalised system: the more the world around us gets difficult to understand, the more the explorations of self and society become entangled with our doubts.
